Machynlleth Mini Maker Faire to include knitting robot
The upcoming Machynlleth Mini Maker Faire, located in the heart of the Welsh, countryside, will be the host of numerous inventive and crafty exhibits including Agnes the knitting robot, shown above. The robot — or to be politically correct, android — has been created by Andy Noyes , a.k.a. AndysMachines, and is able to knit an entire scarf in under five hours. Agnes has already been displayed at various exhibitions across the United Kingdom but will now make her way to Machynlleth, Wales.
The Machynlleth Mini Maker Faire itself has been organised by both Make Magazine and Welsh inventors hub bloc and will take place in Machynlleth’s Centre for Alternative Technology on September 28th 2013. It is one of many fairs of its kind across the world that act as gatherings for those involved in Make’s self-created “Maker Movement“.
If you happen to live within travelling distance of Machynlleth and have something interesting to share, the organisers have extended the deadline for exhibition applicants to August 30th — click here for further details on how to apply.
As for Agnes, we wish her the best of luck at the Machynlleth Mini Maker Faire, although we’re perplexed as to why she continues to knit so many scarves. Perhaps she plans a long hike through the Uncanny Valley…
Have you heard of the “Maker Movement” before? Perhaps you’ve attended a Maker Faire in the past? Are you going to the Machynlleth Mini Maker Faire this year? Are you a knitting android and would like to get in touch? Please do so by leaving a comment below!
